The Physicist's Prayer

God, please tell me
(if I am worth your time;
if my desperate cries for truth move you)
why electrons act the way they do?

If I had flown
ninety million miles,
with the power of the Sun to take me there,
I wouldn't let myself be stopped by air.

I wouldn't want
to have no say in where
I were to end my life eventually
just because that spot was great potentially.

They obey laws —
your own, in fact.
To learn them all brought me no end of pain.
So how did they, if they don't have a brain?

Relax, my son.
Electrons do not think.
They follow natural procedure.
Electrons are not conscious things.
Mind you, you aren't either.
